Thirty-eigbt nominations were received for the Dunedin Cup, against 30 last year. The Gaining and Lotteries Bill comes into force on November Ist, not January Ist as was generally believed would be the case. Native Cat, the trotting horse, has arrived safe at Flcmiugton, and is in capital condition according to accounts rccci veil • At the Geraldine meeting Luna won two events. The Agent won the Hurdle race ami a match of 100 sovs. This is a slice of good luck for “ Patsy.” I hope as he lias started so well, that it may stick to him throughout the season. Racing throughout New Zealand will soon be at its full height, and great are the expectations of a few of the knowing ones. Some are fancying and others mystified, as to who will win the different “ lug pots. My advice is Use your own judgment and never trust to the advice of friends. I am given to understand, upon good authority, that a few of our local horses are about to be put through the mill, and will start hard work next week. I am well aware I wil not be able to please all with my training notes, which 1 will start soon, but I hope a few of the “knowing ones” ■will look over them to a certain extent, should they not go just as they would like them. I will give my candid opinion, and shall try to be up with the lark and see for myself. The list of entries for the Dunedin Autumn meeting is as follows Hurdle Race, 15; Dunedin Cup, 38; Publican’s Handicap, 27; Tally-ho Handicap, 15; City Stakes, 21 ; Novel Race, 7 ; J. C. Handicap, 39 ; Steeplechase, 12 ; Forbury Handicap, 35; Flying Handicap, 22. These are the best entries the Dunedin Jockey Club have had. It appears Mr Lance and Stead have not entered a single animal. Mr Stead, it may be remembered, was hauled over the coals in connection with the Natator affair, and I imagine the gentleman thought he would he just as well out of it, at all events for the Autumn Meeting.
