COMMERCIAL.
LONDON SEED TRADE. Messrs John Shaw and Sons, of 37, Mark Lane, London, E.C., report through their Agent, Mr Leonard \V. Blake, of Christ- • "urch, that during the fortnight ending August 11 tli there was decidedly more business doing, though so far as clovers, fee., were concerned it was, of course, merely speculative, and was induced by the disappointing account given of the new crops. In red clover there was a good deal done, consequently stocks were reduced to the most meagre proportions : as a result of these sales prices have advanced several shillings per cat. White clover and alayke were gradually becoming more firmly held, as more news was circulated as to the new crops, which promise to turn out considerably under those of last year. There lias been a great demand for Italian rye-grass, the latest reports of the crop being extremely unfavorable. There is tittle known so far of perennial rye-grasses, but appearances ar« against a large crop. Scotch turnip seeds are not. to be had, they were so scarce that the few holders of thorn would not sell, unless with other things, and then only at very exorbitant piicec.
