March AD Edward Symons, landlord of the I lorokiwi Valley Hotel, was tried yesterday, for the robbery of a number of eases of goods and spirits found in the sand at Kaikakariki in January last. The trial lasted all day, and the jury were locked up all night. This morning at S o'clock they told the judge they could not agree, ami were discharged. A fresh jury has been empannelled, and the trial is now proceeding before Judge Hardcastle. March 2b. 'l'he second jury empannelled to try Symons were locked up all night, and then could not agree, so they were discharged. The prisoner will not bo further tried this sitting, but will be remanded to next sitting. He lias been arrested on a charge of forgery, which will be heard at the Supremo Court. Wanganui. LYTTELTON. Bailey was insured for LIOO in the Norwich Union, hut estimates his loss at LMOO above that. The house, w hich belonged to James Nmollic, of North Taieri, was insured in the Standard for L2OO.
