Thursday, Noat.mbek IS. The Board met at half-past seA-en o’clock. Present —Messrs C. Redwood (in the chair), Kyles, Parker, Horne, and Davis. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. RAISING lIAT.TFAX-ST. AND MAXWELL-ROAD. The folloAving tenders were recehed : Raising Maxwell-road : J. Batty, £55 4s. Rd.; Patchett and Gridley, £75 ;W. Goslin" £92. Raising Halifax-street: .J. Batty, £192 75.; D. Bishell, £194 19s. ; Patehett and Gridley, £199 ; C. Gomez, £371. The folloAving letter Avas read from the Town Clerk :—- Borough Council Office, Blenheim, Nov. 6, ISSO. Sir, —I have the honor, by direction of the Council, to inform you that the Council intends at its next meeting, to consider the desirability of rescinding the resolution passed in September last, giving the Board permission to raise Maxwell-road and Halifax-street,- —I am, etc., Joiix T. Robinson, The Chairman, Toavii Clerk. LoAver Wairau Rivers Board. A petition Avas presented, signed by W. B. Kuril, A. Penney, and other ratepayers, similar to one recently presented to the Borough Council, praying the Board not to undertake this Avork, Avhich they considered would inflict great injury and damage to their properties. Mr. C. Redwood said those who thought the raising of Halifax-street Avould do harm kneAV nothing at all of Avhat they Avere talking about. With regard to MaxAvellroad it Avas different; that might cause some injury in the case of a heavy flood. Dr. Horne suggested that the matter should stand OA-er until after the next meeting of the Borough Council. If they agreed to it lie should not object. °Mr. Eyles said he was dissatisfied Avith Avhat had been done by the Board so far in this matter. As regarded Maxwell-road it Avas not this Board’s Avork.

On the motion of Dr. Horne it Avas agreed that the acceptance of the tenders be postponed until next meeting. Dr. Horne said he had a matter to bring forward in reference to levels being taken for the purpose of cutting a channel near Fairhall’s. This would divert the OpaAva from tile town, and it Avould haA-e the cordial support of the Trustees in Mrs. Budge's estate. The Chairman said this would seriously interfere Avith the navigation of the river. No motion Avas made on the subject. robinson’s bank. Mr. J. McCallurn Avrote to the Board asking for a grant in aid of work done at Robinson’s bank, Avhich had cost £4O in labor only. It Avas agreed that Messrs Horne, Davis, and Parker should visit the locality and report to the Board. Mr. James Sinclair Avrote to the Board calling attention to the necessity that exists of doing something to the artificial bank laid doAvn in front of bis residence to prevent the overflow of the Opawa.

The Chairman said Mr. Travers hail told him that the Spring Greek Board had not a leg to stand on in reference to then ca. e against this Board, and were not at all likely to go to trial. RE KCCI.ES ESTATE. The Chairman said the Trustees in this estate had not as yet realised assets to meet the claims of the Board against it, but expected to be able to do so shortly. accounts. Budge, £7 10s. w In reference to an account of A. Kogcnaml Co., contractors, of £1614s bd, it was stated that they had lost a monkey wort j £2O, which was sunk somewhere and could not be found. It was a question whether the contractors should pay for it. In reply to Dr. Horne, the Inspector said he thought the loss arose from carelessness. Dr. Home moved that the punt and piles on the river bank be secured at the expense of the contractor. , It was agreed to pay £lO on account, h. s an order for £O. The Board then adjourned.
