AWATERE ROAD BOARD.
Wednesday, November 3. The Board met at 11 o’clock. Present Messrs Mcßae (in the chair), Monro, Green, and Chaytor. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. TENDERS. . The following tenders were opened Making road from side cutting above L pcot to Limestone Channing L 930, time, six months ; T. S. Muddock LG24, time, seven months (accepted.) inspector’s report. The Inspector of N\ orks reported that al the work South of the Awatere is completed and that McMaster and party were employed in repairing the Awatere and Grey bridle tracks. The Inspector had also engaged three men to clcai tussocks from Gee’s wliare to Mi Lmton s. John Berry lias completed his contract for forming 120 chains of the Taylor Pass Road from the foot of the Saddle to Nina cicek, at 22s 9d per chain. Thos. Maddock has commenced his contract for forming about GO chains of side cutting from the Lre to Tar Barrel Hill. awatere sheart no reserve.
Mr Blackett, Resident Engineer, forwarded plans of the road through the Awatere Shearing Reserve, aiso copies of Mr Ward’s tables of areas, and asking for designs of culverts and bridges to be forwarded to him for approval before the work is started. Mr Blackett also forwarded a certificate as to the best available line of road.
The Secretary was instructed to get the Awatere Shearing Reserve plans traced and to write to Mr Blackett in reference to specifications and bridge designs. DUMGREE. Messrs Sharp and Pickering (for the executors of the late Dr Renwick), wrote to the Board complaining of the formation of the new road through the Dumgrec Run being delayed, an agreement having been entered into with the Board on the distinct understanding that the work should he done without delay. The executors having fulfilled their part of the contract request the Board to do theirs. The Board resolved that tenders be called for making the new Taylor Pass road from the Saddle to the place where the surveyed line joins the road at present in use on this side, and that Messrs Sharp and Pickering be informed of the Board’s intention. EAST COAST SURVEY. Mr A. J. Ward, surveyor, wrote asking for instructions, and it was resolved that he he asked to deliver his field hooks and to inform the Board at what cost he will make plans on different scales. Mr Ward informed the Board that he had completed the staking of the Clarence river, and but for the unfavorable state of the weather would have finished ten days sooner. A survey has been made of the Beach road to Ivekerangu but Mr Ward is afraid that any road ma le there will not stand long. A considerable portion of the line is on rotten ground—a hillside of soft clay continually on the move. It would lie well for the Board to hold two lines of road if possible. AWATERE POUND. The Secretary was instructed to make application to the Colonial Secretary to appoint Mr A. Dillon poundkeeper at the Awatere. ACCOUNTS. The following accounts were passed for payment J. Barry LG ss, J. Berry LSO, A. Ward L 33 15s, Thompson L 25 15s lOd, Eyes LS 6s Sd, Maddock L7S 10s, Hickey L2 13b 4(1, Dillon L 3 13s 4d, Gridlcy L 7, J. Berry L 23 10s, Thos. Maddock LI 13s 4d. The Board then adjourned.
