The second day’s races of the Victorian Racing Club’s .Spring Meeting was held today at Flcmington. The weather Shis splendid, and there Avas an immense concourse of spectators, estimated at 100,000. The course it is believed, lias never been so cro’.vded. The Marquis of Norman by Sir William Jervois, and the Duke of Manchester were present. The following are the results of the chief events, the fields for Avliich Avere large, and the racing good:—■ Maiden Plate. —A sAveepstakes of lOsovs each, li ft, Avith 200 sovs added. For three year olds and upwards. I\ eight for age. One mile and a half. Orient, 1; Exeter, 2; Hermon, 3. Won easily. Time, 2mins 44 sees. Railway Stakes. —A sweepstakes of 5 soa’s each, Avitli 100 sovs added. For three year olds and upwards. Weight for age. One mile and a quarter. Monarque, t; Dugalston, 4 : Chatterer, 3. A grand race, terminating in a dead heat. 'Tunc, 2niins Msecs. Melbourne Cup.—A handicap sAveepstakes of 20 sovs, 10 ft, or 5 if declared, Avith 500 sovs added. The second horse to receive 200 sovs, and the third 100 sovs out of the stakes. (109 subs*) Mr J. Smith's Grand Flaneur, 1 ; Progress, 2 ; Lord Burghley, 3, Time, 3mins 34vsecs. Twenty horses started, and it was a capital race. Mata never showed to front. Progress led for some distance, hut Lothair and Grand Flaneur came up at the home turn, the latter Avinning a splendid race by three quarters of a length from Progress, Lord Burghley third, and Lothair, Martindalo, and Chester folloAving. Nappor Tandy was placed third by the judge, hut it found to he an error. Grand Flaneur's Avinning is hard oil the bookmakers, as lie Avas largely hacked in doubles. Grand Flaneur has neA'er yet been beaten, and his A'ictory is very popular. All the placed horses were strong favorites, slioAving that their running was very erne. The Darling Stakes.—A sAveepstakes of 5 soa-s each, Avith 100 added. For three year olds and upAvards. Weight for age. One mile and a half. Tne Aviinner to he sold for 200 sovs. (No selling allowances.) Supplejack, t; Latrokc, i'. A dead heat. Six started. Time, 3mins 44secs.
