A WORD IN DEFENCE.
To tiie Editor. Sin, —I wish to make a few remarks respecting the recent discoveries of gold in Marlborough by Mr Daniel James Moore, and I must first mention that I have been for some time intimately acquainted with that gentleman, and will therefore give iny opinion as to his ability, See., in mining generally. In the first pla j. I believe him to be a very persevering man with an unlimited amount of patience, which a true prospector must possess to bring himself to a successful issue. lam perfectly satisfied that he is also well posted -’p in mining matters generally and understands both theory and practice, and if examined will answer any reasonable question put to him by practical men. lam very sorry to say that he has been called away at present through the death of his brother, oi I wouhfnot be required to answer for him, as I am quite satisfied that he is quite capable of contradicting all the reports made against him. —I am, Sc. c., Williiam Oliver. Wakamarina, October 11th, ISSO.
