On Monday, the 31st May (says the Hong Kong Daily Press) a dreadful accident 0 happened at Bangkok, which has plunged the Court of Siam in mourning. His Majesty the King, some of the ladies of the palace, and some of the royal children were on a pleasure to the royal retreat at Koh Bang-pa-in.’ A barge containing the Queen and her infant daughter, the l uncess Karama, was capsized through, the rope attaching it to the steam yacht giving way, and all on board are said to have been drowned. The body of her Iloyal Highness and that of the young princess, locked in the arms of her nurse, have been recovered. A royal prince and a high military officer were tried by court martial and sentenced to degradation. Younv Brutes.—lt would bo interesting to know what sort of parentage and education three; boys had, who were hanged m Canton, Ohio, on a recent date, for murder. All tliree.were under twenty-one years of age. 'Two of them murdered an inoffensive old man, who gave them money to bring him food, and went to sleep in a wood while waiting their return. The third killed a boy who was to be a witness against him in a larceny case. Such a brutal readiness to take life argues bad blood or bad education. Could these young ruffians, whose necks were broken by the officers of the law, have been useful members of society if they had been well brought up, or did the structure of their brain fore-ordain them for assassins ? If we. are ever to have a science of crime, such interesting specimens of moral monsters as these Canton boys must be studied before they are put out of the world.—Aeta York Tribune. Census Revelations.—The American census recently taken has revealed some curious things. In the State of Now Yoi the number of females out-numbering the males is larger than ever before, And. this probable accounts for the unusually large number of women in the State below the age of twenty-five,'although, according to the census, enumerators;; thousaiids of these women!/ will o never see thirty-five. It is probable that Massachusetts, on account of its prS~existihg admirable system of collecting statistics,; will be the first State in the Unionto .'report .complete [ to headquarters at Washirigtoti. ./The enumerators report generally that they: found thc ; most appar*

ent contentment among the middle classes, and the least among the wealthy classes. Among the richest families of Boston few children are reported, it being deemed unfashionable by this class tohavecnildren. A good deal of difficulty lias been experienc cd by the enumerators in obtaining the ages of the females connected with wealthy "am: lies.
