THE PROPERTY TAX SCHEDULES.
At a Cabinet meeting held on Thursday last the form of the new schedules to be issued under the Property Assessment Amendment Act was finally determined and as so much delay has occurred ill distributing them, it is probable that the time for sending in the returns will be extended to the middle of next month. ■ Thus will give ample time to do all that is now required, the form having been so simplified that few persons can experience any difficulty in filling in the schedules. The form is almost exactly the same as that given as a schedule to the Property Assessment Amendment Bill (No. l) r the only difference of any consequence being that the returns of freehold and leasehold property are to be kept separate. The main change made from the forms circulated under the former Act is, of course, the elimination of the inquisitorial element which was so objectionable a feature in these, and the substitution of a simple schedule requiring only to be stated the net taxable value of property liable to taxation. I lie following is the form of the new schedule, subject to some possible slight verbal alteration in “ proof” Property Assessment For the Year ending 31st March, ISSI.
