PARLIAMENTARY.
The last vital spark of the second session of the seventh Parliament of New Zealand was extinguished in the passing of the Appropriation Act, and nought remained but for the Governor to pronounce life extinct, and bury it out of sight. The burial service however, was only to be a second hand affair—in keeping with an inglorious existence. The Premier announced that Commissioners would he appointed to perform the ceremony which usually devolves upon the representative of her Majesty. As soon as the Appropriation Bill had been agreed to in the “ Commons, ” it was hurried into the “Lords,” and the Bill having been passed through all its stages, was sent hack to the House. Then the Premier moved the adjournment till 2.15 next day, at which hour the prorogation was to take place. The House was very thin during the progress of the Bili —about 10 members only being present—and everything wore a glcomy appear ance. THE PKOUOOATIOX. The House met at 2.15 p.m., and at 2.30 the few members present were summoned to attend in the Legislative Council, where Parliament was formally prorogued by commission. The Royal Commissioners were the Hon. Sir William Fitzherbert, KCM.G, Speaker of the Legislative Council; the Hon. F. Whitaker, Attorney-General; the Hon. John Johnston, the Hon. G. M. Waterhouse, and the Ho ;. Col. Whitmore. The ceremony was of a purely formal character, and elicited no interest whatever.— Post, Sept. 1.
