THE LATE ELECTION.
To tiie Editor
Slit—The West Ward is to he congratulated in having elected Mr Riley as Councillor, if for no other reason than that his business is in the West Ward. Mr Kuril may be a good Councillor, hut there is a danger that lie might have been got to go in for another Auckland-street swindle such as when one year’s rates were spent in building walls and filling hollows in that 3trcet, This year we are to have another year’s rates spent on a bridge to benefit the same greedy Ninth Ward clan. We have also seen tho Rivers Boards’ money squandered on Dodson’s banks, and no doubt if a person is elected whose interests arj in the North Ward another year’s rates will go in the same way, instead of being spent in much needed repairs in the West Ward, which requires more than any of the others to put it in the same position as regards convenience to the ratepayers. We require no representative men from other parts of the town, and if we are allowed will he able to find one who shall look after our interests as well as they have been looked after in the past.—l am, &e., lI IGH-STREKT.
