AWATERE ROAD BOARD.
Wednesday, July 7. Tiie Board met at 11 o’clock. Present—Messrs llodaon (in the Chair), Mcßae, Monro, and Green. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Secretary reported that there was a bslauce to the credit of the Board of £971 8s Od. TENDERS. The following tenders were opoued for cutting at One Tree HillE. Sullivan, L 5 per chain* time 3 months; J. Willis, L 4 lfis, do do 4 do; J. o‘Donohue, L 3 12s, do do 3 do ; H. O'Leary L 3 10s, do do 3 do ; T. Neville, L2 15s, do do 3 do; P. Mack, L2 10s, do do 3 do ; T. S. Maddock, L2 7s Gd, do do 8 do; J. Mills, LI lfis, do, no time stated. Mr Maddock’s tender was accepted. PAYMENTS. The following vouchers were passed for payment:—Booinson Bros. LG 4s Gd, W, Robinson L 23 2s, J. Berry L2o, J. H. Wood L 5, Major Martin L 27, E. Maddock LB2, J. H. Wood LIOG 7s, A. Ward L 37 3s 4d, Hickey L 7, Eyes Li) 15s 4d, W. Griffiths LlO 10s, E. Maddock LSB Gs Bd. TUB CHAIRMAN. Mr Hodson, the Chairman, stated that as the term of his office had now expired, and as he did not intend to stand again, he bogged leave to resign his seat as Chairman. It was unanimously resolved that the thanks of the Board be given Mr Hodson fertile efficient manner in which he has discharged the duties of Chairmon. inspector’s report. Mr E. Maddock, the Inspector of Works reported that Messrs J. and F. Ward have finished No. 2 contract on the Taylor Pass road, and that Mr J. Berry is puuhiug on with No. 1 contract from Nina Creek to the foot of the .Saddle and expects to finish in about three weeks’ time. Mr party have completed the Ure autting and shifted their camp to the Flags, where they, are about to build a bridge and niake eut< tings. Three men are employed clearing > tussocks and repairing cuttings on the Flaxbourne road, and the Inspector purposes to continue the work on to the Grer'river. The bridle track at Weld’s Hill ford has been repaired and men are at work from thence to the Taylor Pass road. SLAUGHTER-HOUSE LICENSE. The Board recommended that the application of Mr K. Mowatt for a slaughterhouse license be granted, AWATERE RESERVE. It was resolved that when the first section of the Awatere Reseive is passed by Mr Blackett, Mr Ward, with the consent of Mr Blackett, proceed with the East Coast road. MEADOW BANK. It was resolved that the Secretary write to Mr Seymour, asking him on what terms the road through the Taylor Pass, going through Meadow Bank Run may be acquired by the Board, RETIRING MEMBERS'. The Secretary reported that the retiring members for the year were Messr* Barclay, Green, and Hodson. The Board then adjourned,
WAIRAU ROAD BOARD. Wednesday, July 7. The Board met at 2 o’clock. Present —Messrs Ward (in the chair), Coulter, Monro, and Avery. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. KEN WICIC. A letter from Mr Mills, Chairman of the Benwick School Committee, was reed, pointing out that footbridges were required over one or two small creeks near Mrßrydon’s, to enable children to get to school in wet weather. The Board authorised the expenditure ol £7 for the purpose. ONAMALUTU. Mr J. Maher signified in writing his assent to the erection of a footbridge over the Onamalutu stream on his land. The Secretary was instructed to write to Mr Maher, to know if he would agree to an exchange of land for a new line of road, to be pointed out by Mr Maddock. The further consideration of the question of the road to Fabian’s bush was postponed to next meeting. WAIRAU FORDS. The Pelorus Road Board requested this Board to contribute to the cost of clearing some of the large stones from the \\ aiiau and Opawa fords between Kaituna and Renwidk. Tho Board declined to contribute to the work, it not being within their district. STRAY SIIET2P. Mr Goultor (for Mr Monro) asked for some person to be appointed to impound stray sheep and cattle trespassing on the roads. It was resolved to advertise for tenders for the work. doc; point road. In roply to Mr Coulter, Mr Maddock stated that Mr Boyce, the contractor fo metalling Dog Point Road, which was let two months ago, had not got on with the work. The Inspoetor was instructed to see that the work be proceeded with at once, otherwise that the next lowest tender be accepted. wathopat. Mr Coulter moved that the Waihopai road be formed from the Wairau Valley road to tho Delta gate and the Dog Point road, from the Omaha to the Waihopai, and that tenders be called for the work ; also, that the above road be cleared of vegetation, and that the cutting near Mr Dillon’s be repaired. This was agreed to. FAIKHALL. Mr Coulter asked for some scantling to be placed on the fence at the upper crossing of the Fairhall, but it was agreed to let this stand over until next meeting. ACCOUNTS. The following accounts were passed tor payment :— -E-cpivm £4 5s Gd, A. Wood £4, H. D. Williams £lO, C. Watson £7 10s, T. Hopgood and Co. £4 IGs, Survey Department £1 143 Gd, J. Higgins and Co. £l7, T. Harrington 15s. KATE. A rate of 8d in the £ was struck, and the Board then adjourned.
