* [REUTER’S TELEGRAMS.] LONDON. .Tunc 18. The match between the Australians and the Dublin University team, at Dublin, was csmmenced to-day. They played against eighteen of the latter. Great interest is being taken in the Australian matches. They went in first, and were all out for 220 runs. Slight was not out for 50. The Home team then went in for their first innings, and had lost one wicket for seven runs.
In the House of Commons the Bill for Irish Relief has been read a second time. Consols have further risen one quarter, and arc to-day quoted at 9Si, exdividend. New Zealand securities are unchanged. The markets for Australian and New Zealand breadstuff’s are quiet, and without change in price.
BERLIN. June. 18. The European Conference commenced its sittings ta-day. Prince Hohenlohc v r as elected President. The proceedings of the Conference are kept secret. ATHENS, June IS. The Greek Government has sent a circular note to the Great Powers sitting forth a claim foy territory between Janina and Prevesa, in the south of Albania, and for an extensive district in the province of Thessaly. The demands of the Government will it is announced, be referred to the Special Commiesion to be despatched by the Berlin Conference to settle the Turko-Greek frontier question on the spot.

It is uuderstoond that Mr Hamlin left for Waimate Plains with a view of ascertaining the correctness or otherwise of the statement regarding the alleged discontinuance of a certain road, which is reported to have run into a swamp. Government advertise for tenders for a four weekly service between Auckland and Fiji, tenders to be received up to Saturday, 3rd July. A petition is being got up here requesting the American Government to grant the petitioners a free passage to the United States. This is to supplement the original petition started at Christchurch. In consequence of the natives on the Plains fencing across the new road made in defiance of the Government and Constabulary, Mr Bryce left here yesterday par Hinemoa, and arrived at New Plymouth at seven this morning, and proceeded to the Constabulary Camp, which is now only 7 miles distant. The Constabulary had temporarily suspended operations awaiting .Mr Bryce’s arrival. AUCKLAND. Monday. Angothe St. Just Mackay, charged on re-
mand with endeavouring to induce Jules Juliot to commit felony, w r as discharged this morning, the Magistrate stating that the evidence was insufficient for committal. TIMARU. Monday. George Gleeson, a pedestrian, has been sentenced to seven days for gambling with an “under and over” table on the racecourse. O'Connor commenced his 24 hours walkmatch against time on Saturday. He covered 30 miles in 5S hours, but after completing 49 miles in nine hours he had to yield up the sponge in consequence of an injured feot. DUNEDIN. Monday. Vinegar Hill in the Dunstan Creek District, is looking well. Mills and Company commenced washing up last week and three buckets of stuff from the tail race, before the paddock was cleaned down, yielded 220 ounces. They expect to have on the whole 700 ounces this washing. Holversen’s claim, Hyde, also continues to give good yields. The Benevolent Society’s carnival realised £I4OO. NEW PLYMOUTH. Monday. The natives are still showing a tacit opposition to the road parties south of Stoney River. They have erected several fences across the line of road at Ngakumikumi. and the Constabulary in every instance pulled the fences down, only to find them re-erected by the natives on the following day. The first pile of the Waitara wharf will be driven on Monday at 4 o’clock. INVERCARGILL. Monday. Parties working on alluvial ground 30 miles up the river lately came into Riverton to sell gold, and get miners rights. They let out that they were working on an area sufficient for 500 men.
