Blenheim, Monday, June 21. (Before H. Mclntire, Esq., R.M.] PROTECTION ORDER. Catherine Kiernan applied for an order protecting her earnings from the control of her husband, Richard Kiernan, carpenter, who, she stated in the information, neglected to adequately contribute to the support of herself and family. Catharine Kiernan-, deposed—l am the wife of Richard Kiernan, and live in Grove Road. He does not provide me with adequate means of support. There arc four children of the marriage undei 14 years of age. My husband is not in employment now. He is a carpenter. He has been drinking lately. He drinks habitually when in own. It’s only when he is not in town that he keeps sober. He has during the past six months provided very little for the family —not more than £4. We have been chiefly maintained by my own earnings at sewing and washing. One of my sons has assisted me. My husband can earn 10s a day when at work. I don’t know that lie could earn that continuously, but he could get a deal more than he does if lie exerted himself and kept sober. I don’t wish to charge him with cruelty. Baring the past month I have been about town doing nothing particular. I have been about the public houses. I have contributed about £4O during the last six months for my family. (Mrs Kiernan said this was not true.) The R.M. said he must come to the conclusion that the wife was entitled to an order protecting her earnings and property from her husband’s control.
