[From Our Own Correspondent.] June 9. The Pelorus Board held their usual monthly meeting on Wednesday last, when it was decided that the nomination of candidates
should be received during the second week iu July. The rctiri g members are Messrs Dive, Kenuingto , and Lambert. The con /actors for No. 1 road contract, Hughes, Hippolite and Co., commenced work on Monday morning, at Hayden’s Hill, and if the weather holds good their bid fair to make satisfactory progre s. Messrs Williams and Alexander, the contra dors for Nos. 2 and 3, are maki g prep- ations for starting work.
Air Freeman is now at work at the Kai tuna bridge, air 1 in the immediate neighbor hood Air 11. J es is busily occupied in building a new liool-room. Some sportsmen have lately been trying their skill with dog and gun at Mahakipawa, but have met with only indifferent success, the pheasants being very scarce. There has been great mustering of sheep in the above district recently, and the birds have been much disturbed. Quail, however, are very plentiful. Messrs Bay ley and McShanc, Sheep Inspectors, started for Kida Bay on Friday last, but had to return on account of the severity of the-weather. The ; is a large amount of sickness in this locality just now —rheumatism and bronchitis being the prevailing complaints.
