Mr IV. Pickering was chosen Fox the occasion, and Mr G. Parsons.and Mr Johnson, Huntsman and Whipper-in respectively, and appeared on the scene duly equipped in the orthodox costme, to w it—scarlet coats, top boots, and breeches, and carrying limiting horns, etc. A good start was effected at 12.30, notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather. Ilie fox received some minutes start, and directly the time had elapsed, tlie horn sounded, and all were in full cry. The first fence .was cleared with some difficulty, but the succeeding ones were easily overcome till the hunters arrived at the "\\ iikaiiKitinafKilci, where the only casualities of the day took place. Here in some instances both horses and riders came to grief, but no serious disasters occurred. The sportsmen remounted, and made great efforts to be m at the death. After a run of over an hour and ten" minutes across fair hunting country. the -brush’ was secured by Mr G. Parsons. The horn was then sounded, and all adjourned to Y\ ilson’s Hotel, where an excellent luncheon was provided, to which all the party did full justice, being literally as ‘ hungry .as hunters.’ Home few appropriate toasts were duly honored;that of tlie Fox, Huntsman, and Whipper-in, being the most prominent. A general wish was expressed that this meet mifjht be the forefunner of many similar and equally satisfactory gatherings. A ball was given in tlie evening at the Town Hall by the ladies of the Croquet Club, and passed off very successfully. The musical accompaniment was ably supplied by Mr Vanini. The hospitality and kindness of the ladies was duly appreciated by the guests, and all present enjoyed themselves thoroughly. . On Tuesday afternoon the same ladies gave a free tea to the children of the district, which was followed by a dance in the evening, and proved a most successful 'affair. Home anxiety is felt regarding the safety of the Colleen B,wn. She was last seen outside Queen Charlotte Sound about three weeks since. She had ou board a cargo for Pieton, and from thence she had to sail for Havelock. Police Sergeant Hogan lias had a notice served on linn at tne instanco of L. 11. Adams, late defendant iu the case af Police v. Adams that was heard in the R.M. Court here—May 13—by Mr McNab, defendant’s solicitor, claiming damages to the amount of two hundred pounds (£200) for false imprisonment on the 10th May.
