MURDER BY A DYING MAN.
A correspondent at Naples writes on the 21st March : ‘ A strange and horrible murder was committed here last Sunday. A man in humble position in life, named Domnico Ippoliro, 50 years of age, who lived with his wife in a poor room in the disused monastery of St. Thomas d’Aquino, lay dying of inflammation of the lungs. The doctors had given him up, and the last consolations of religion had been administered. About three o’clock on Sunday afternoon some neighbours heard a shriek from the room of the sick man, and believed it to proceed from his wife at the death of her husband; but immediately afterwards the door of the room opened, and the rvifo rushed out, exclaiming ‘ Madonna ! Madonna !’ and fell to the ground. She had a deep wound in the breast. One of her neighbours ran to the dying man to inquire the cause of the wound, when he with difficulty pronounced the words, ‘ She robbed me of my two francs, and I have done for her.’ The woman died immediately after being taken to the hospital, and her murderer who was also removed to another hospital and interrogated by the authorities, had just strength to tell them his name, when he too succumbed to his malady. Inquiries were instituted, but no other reason could Ire found for the horrible deed than that assigned by the perpetrator. ’
