THE LATE CHARGES AGANST MR ACTON ADAMS.

A public meeting was held in Nelson on Friday last, Mr Levestan in the chair, to consider the latecharges against Mr Adams. Mr Bunny, who was one of the principal speakers, stated that in reference to what had taken place the previous day in the street, he intended to place the matter in hands of the legal profession thoughout New Zealand and go to the Supreme Court. The following resolutions were,passed : Proposed by Mr Robert Gray, secondod by Mr Rowell, That in the opinion of this meeting, a miscarriage of justice has taken place in the case of Thomas v. Adams, and that evidence ohould he laid before the Hon the Minister for Justice.

Proposed by Mr T. Atkinson, seconded by Mr M‘Cleary, Thatin the opinion of this meeting the Justices of the Peace who sat in the late case of Thomas v. Adams, are not fit persons to sit on the Benoh, and should he struck off the roll.

Proposed by Mr McCTeary, and seconded by Mr Rowell, That this meeting expresses great sympathy with Mr Charles E, Bunny, on account of tho atrocious and dastardly attack made on him in the public streets of Nelson by Mr P. B. Adams. Proposed by Mr MeArtney and soconded by Mr Antoinelli, That resolutions Nos. 1 and 2, ho forwarded to the Minister for Justice.

Proposed by Mr McArtney, and seconded by Mr Wyrnond, That a cordial vote of thanks be accorded to Messrs Bunny and Pitt for their straightforward conduct throughout the affair. Proposed by Mr Robert Gray, seconded by MrF. Atkinson, That in the opinion of this meeting Mr W. Acton B. Adams is not a fit and proper person to represent this con slituency in Parliament, and that he bo at once requested to resign. (Loud applause and uproar.) Proposed by Mr Stevenson, and seconded by Mr Dennie, That a committee be formed to get a requisition signod calling on Mr Adams to resign, and he named Mr Clarkson, Mr Payne, aud Mr W. R. Parmenter, as that committee with power to add to their number.
