GRAIN AND PRODUCE MARKET. Blenheim, Tuesday.— Wheat: There have been but few transactions to record. A parcel of mixed sorts changed hands at Ist'.o.b., but buyers are not eager to purchase at that figure, while farmers, anticipating better values, when the market is fairly opened, will not sell for less, consequently no business is being done. Barley : The usual demand for this grain has not yet commenced, maltsters being deterred from commencing operations by the hot weather. Our market will be to a great extent governed by the supplies available clown Soutli, -where at prooent prices range from 2s 9d to 3s 9d for from ordinary to best malting. A lot of 2,500 bushels was disposed of at 3s 6d f.o.b. to a Nelson buyer, and this figure may be taken as the opening price. We are inclined to think, however, that for really prime samples a good advance will be obtainable when buyers are once in the market. Oats: No enquiries whatever. There is still a large quantity of last season’s grain held, and this year’s production will be above the average, so that growers cannot expect payable prices. Quotation down South range from lOd to Is 3d, and some farmers are shipping Home in preference to nominal, 2s 9d to 3s. Peas : No demand. Up to the present time there is no vitality observable in the grain market. The very large yields reported from all parts of the Colony have engendered more than usual caution on the part of buyers, added to which the tightness of money, has almost stopped speculative pbrehases, operations being almost entirely confined to supplying ordinary demands. Wellington. —Messrs Laery and Campbell sold, at their market sale to-day : Pears, 12s fid per case, apples 3s 9d to Bs, cucumbers Is 2d per dozen, eggs 2s, roll bacon fid, Canterbury cheese s£d, onions 10s fid, potatoes £3 ss, bran fid, pollard 4s fid to ss, chaff £4 10s, Sydney maize 3s, chick wheat (inferior) 3s to 3s 6d. WOOL SALES. London, March 5. —New Zealand wheat is quoted at 47s 9d. The total quantity of wheat afloat for Great Britain is 1,850,000 quarters. At the Wool Sales to-day C,600 bales were catalogued. The tone of the market is unchanged, and continues firm. Best Australian beef tallow is selling at 35s fid. March 6. —At the wool auctions over 150,000 bales have been catalogued since opening up to yesterday. The market has a fimer tone. accepting buyers offers. Graas Seed : Unsaleable; prices
