HAVELOCK.
February 18. The first meeting of the Education Committee was lield in the Beys’ Schoolroom on Thursday evening, the 12th instant, when Mr Robert Alexander was appointed Chairman. Two resignations were received and read, viz., from Mr H. N. Firth and Mr V. C. Vennimore. The meeting then adjourned to Monday, the 23rd February next, when a Secretary will have to be appointed, and also to fill up the two vacancies already mentioned. The Pelorus Sound School Education Committee met at the Girls’ Schoolroom on Thursday evening, the 12th instant, when Mr R. Forrest was chosen Chairman, and Mr Joshua Rutland. Secretary. The funds of the Havelock Library are in a very languishing state, and unless more interest is taken by the public the present boon to the community will have to be discontinued. i understand the Canvas Town Library is getting on nicely. AVe experienced an agreeable change in the temperature on Monday. We had line rain the preceding day which has cooled the atmosphere, and is a great relief after the excessive heat.
The Marlborough Art Festival Committee have requested Mr H. L. N. Clarke to canvass this district for funds.
