CRICKET MATCH.

AWATKRE V. BLENHEIM STAR CLUB,

This match came off on Seymour Square on Wednesday last. The weather was fine, but the ground, as it usually is, was rather lumpy. Efforts had been made to have a good pitch, but the time in whice this had to be done was said to be hardly sufficient for the purpose. The Captains of the two teams, Messrs Firth aud Halliday, tossed for choice of innings. The Nelson men won the tos3 and elected to go in themselves. Some good play was exhibited on both sides. Firth, as of old, was “all there ” at the bat and the ball, and made a capital score of. 32 in both innings. The bowling all round was splendid and the Blenheim Club may be congratulated on the accession made to their strength by Mr Brown, of the Public Works Department, who, both as a bowler and batsman, did good service. Crowther was a capital long stop for Blenheim notwithstanding the state of the ground. As will be seen from the score, the Blenheim team were beaten by 18, and their defeat was probably owing to want of practice. The play of Firth, Mowatt, and two of the boys Trolove was noticeable for its excellence on the Nelson side. Tieweek and Stevenson for Blenheim, fielded remarkably well. We were glad to see Young Blenheim also well represented in the Nelson team by Robinson, who long stopped very nicely. It is in contemplation, We understand, to make arrangements for a Blenheim team to go through to Nelson and play there. A meeting is to be called shortly to pick an eleven to do battle for Blenheim, The scores were as follows :
