Lower Wairau Rivers Board. TO THE ELECTORS. Ladies and gentlemen,— I have once more offered myself as a Candidate to fill one of the vacant seats in your Rivers Board, and if elected I shall try and spend the Ratepayers’ money to the best advantage. In regard to the late work done at Rock Ferry known as Mr Redwood’s scheme, it appears to me to be a complete failure, as there is eight of the piles given way, and it is quite evident that there is a great deal more water in the Opawa and less in the Wairau since the flood. 1 should not agree in spending any more money in such f works, as I believe that the piles have got a great tendency of scouring the river bed out instead of filling up. At the present stage of the river I think the best plan would be to confine ourselves more to the banks of the river, and do protecting works something the same as at the Opawa Ferry, and by doing so we should keep the water more in the rivers and do more good. Also I should be in favour of reducing the rate, from One Shilling to Sixpence in the £ in Class I„ and from Sixpence to Threepence in Class 11., and I think that should bring in as much money as would be required to pay the cost of any work that would be necessary to have done. I will leave it in your hands, to judge for yourselves on Thursday. I remain Your obedient servant, 122 JAMES JELLYMAN. Tenders.
