SPRING CREEK ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of the Board was held on the 7th January, at 2 p.m. The members present were Messrs J. H. Redwood (Chairman), G. Dodson, P. O‘Dwyer, and C. O‘Dwyer. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Letters were received from the Colonial Secretary, intimating that the Counties’ subsidy had been placed to the credit of the Board in the Bank of New Zealand. From Mr George Withey, resigning his office as Impounder. The resignation of the Impounder was accepted. A petition was received from C. Ohlsen and others praying that the permission recently given to the Board to Messrs Thomas and Sadd to fence in certain unused streets which run through section 42 be withdrawn.
The Board said that when they granted permission to Messrs Thomas and Sadd to fence in the street they were informed that no objections would be raised ; now they found that seven or eight of the ratepayers had petitioned against the street being closed, and this being the case there was no other course but to allow the street to remain open to the public. It was then resolved that the resolution passed at the last meeting giving Messrs Thomas and Sadd permission to fence across the street be rescinded.
The Secretary was instructed to write to Messrs Thomas and Sadd informing them of the decision of the Board, and also to intimate to the petitioners that the prayer of the petition had been granted. The Inspector was instructed to prepare plans and specifications for the removal of the long bridge on the Sandhill Road, and insert a culvert in its place ; the tenders to be called for Monday the 12th instant, and Messrs G. Dodson, C. O ‘Dwyer, and the Chairman were appointed to open the tenders and accept. Repairs were also ordered to be done to. the cutting in Hillock’s load, leading to the Wairau River to Mills and Ford’s Road, and to the railway crossnear Pritchard’s gate. The following accounts were passed for payment—Hill, drain pipes, L3O Os 6d ; Inspector Lll ss; Secretary, L 7 10s; Impounder L2 10s, fencing in ferry land L2l 10s. The Board then adjourned.
