The Only Paper Published in the Matamata County.

THE recent sad fatality at Matamata again directs attention to the level crossing danger—this time at Matamata itself. It is admitted that the Railway Department is doing all possible lo lessen the risk to those using the highways, and it cannot be expected, at least for a long while, that crossing* in country districts such as the one at which the accident occurred will have subways or overhead bridges substituted except under special circumstances. This may be an opportune time to draw notice to the necessity for a subway or bridge at the Towev road crossing. Nlarly half of the residents, of Matamata are now residing on the. western side of the town, and traffic from Tower road is frequently held up while a train is shunting. This causes inconvenience in addition to danger. We suggest that this is a matter which should be dealt with by local public bodies-
