Brief Mention of Happenings in Matamata and Vicinity. Propaganda maps in connection with the completion of the East Coast railway are being issued throughout the province. These show, besides the proposed East Coast route, the Rotorua and Main Trunk lines. It is somewhat surprising to note that the only station shown between Morrinsville and Rotorua is Tirau. Truly it can be said that " Matamata. is not on the map." It will be 20 years on June 2 next since the Matamata estate was thrown open for selection. The area was 39,525 acres .", roods 12 perches on l.i.p. and 2956 acres as a small grazing run. A few years ago the settlers were given the option of ac(juiring the freehold. Many settlers took advantage of the privilege, so that there are very few now who hold their land on the original tenure.
