PEDIGREE AND GRADE CATTLE.
SALE AT MATAMATA. Good Prices. Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., held a clearing sale of pedigree and grade cattle for Mr. T. Bottomley at Mata- 1 mata on Friday. The attendance was ( i large and some excellent prices were , realised. Grade cattle sold pavticu- < larly well, several being sold at fig- ) ures in the vicinity of £2O. ' The pedigree sales were:— < Cow, Glyndyfrdwy Blonde Imper- : feet, 17gns. Week-old bull calf (son of above), signs. Glyndyfrdwy Maud, bought by Mr. H. E. Candy, Ngarua, lllgns. This cow secured the Jersey championship at the Matamata show and was also champion cow of all breeds at the show. , i . I Pedigree heifer calf, by Bouquet Rozel, 30gns. Mr. B. W. Tisch, Hinu- I era. | Cow, Trelawney Rosemary, 50gns. I Mr. S. J. Harding, Hinuera. j The Jersey bull Bouquet Rozel went I cheap at 32igns, the purchaser being . Mr. C. Atkinson, of Okoroire. ! , , A yearling pedigree bull realised 12igns. I The sale of grade Jerseys was quite up to expectations despite the fact that thsre were a number of particularly small mothers. Forty-four of this breed averaged about £ll, the highest price being bid by Mr. J. F. Dalziel, Waharoa, at £l9. Twentyeight grade Shorthorns averaged a shade under £9, the highest bid being by Mr. McQ.uade, Matamata, at £l6. Friesians did better than the Shorthorns but were, fewer in number, five I averaging just over £l2. A number of dry and faulty cows were sold at store* prices .and all the yearlings ' (Jersey and Friesian crosses) were ' passed. Seventy-seven dairy cows 1 and heifers averaged about lOgns per ! head. The largest buyer, was Mr. J. 1 F Dalziel, Waharoa, and others were ■ Messrs. T. 7L* Browse, Sefton. Banks, i R T. Watson, Tower road, K. J. Shaw, Barnes, Hinuera, C. Scelly, Hinuera. McQuade, Matamata, W. J. Poison, P.utaruru, J. McLaren, Okoroire, J. Montague, Turanea-o-moana, H McKean, Matamata. N. Blennerhassett, Matamata, J. Furniss, Mata- | mata, and J. Denton, Okoroire. It was a distinct tribute to Mr. Bottom- , lev that all the buyers were from his I own district, nnd also to Mr. R. Glynn i Lewis, the breeder of the pedigree , stock, that this should still be in good I demand. ' The sale of horses was also good. I A five-year -draught mare realised I £42, beintr purchased by Mr. S. Mc*Kibbon. Wa-hou. Draught geldings ! brought from £26 to £BB and.good ; farm mares and geldings £2B, M 6 anci £35. An unbroken three-year farm "I filly brought £2O. Considering Ihe time of the year the sale can Lc termed a particularly i good one.
