MATAMATA TOWN BOARD
FORTNIGHTLY M LISTING. 1 The fortnightly meeting of the Matamata Town Board- was held on Wednesday evening, the members present being Messrs. W. A. Gordon (chairman), A. Stewart, F. E. Lark, J. Mclntyre, W. Bennett and H. Delaney. The engineer, Mr. Worley, was also present at the Board’s request. SEWERAGE LOAN. The Board’s solicitor wrote regarding the chairman’s inquiry as to whether it could raise money for sewerage purposes at a higher rate of interest than that specified in the loan proposals, stating that the position was that if the Board was experiencing difficulty in raising further moneys at the interest authorised by the ’ noil of ratepayers the Board should apply to the Minister for Finance for tho necessary authority to borrow such moneys, at whatever rate of interest it is found will have to he paid. TTe suggested that, before the authority was applied for. inquirv should he made of financial institutions who have moneys available for investment and that fell particulars of the best offer received he furnished lo the Minister with such application when if was thought the necessavv authority would he issued. The chairman said he had asked for tlio opinion so that the Board would l-iiov where it was.—Loft in the hands of the Finance Committee. WAIKATO HOSPITAL BOARD. The Waikato.Hospital Board wrote asking for payment of £270 17s 2d, boing the levy of rates on the town area.—Received. STRAYING CATTLE. Constable T. Hoops, in reply to a communictation from the Board regarding taking proceedings against tlio "owners of straying cattle, suggested that the Board’s ranger should supply names so that ho could take proceedings under the Police Offences Act. The Board’s letter to the police stated that if action was taken the Board intended to press for tho. maximum penalty. Mr. Bennett said this matter had been an acute one at. Rotorua for years. The only remedy was to get the police to take action. Tt was decided to give Ihe noundkoener instructions to supply the police with the necessary information. ATHLETIC MEETING. The Matamata United Friendly Societies wrote asking for the free use of the hall for a public meeting to he held for the purpose of discussing tho matter of holding an athletic nieetj.bKV PAY. ' - The! cnffirmaiv, said the letter did not state, v.’MtP object: the athletic meeting.wast toJjc held for. This was most fihportant., Mr. Lark said the Friendly Societies were simply taking the initiative in calling a meeting so that an athletic club might he formed. There was a period in the year when Matamata was “ dead,” and it was thought that, an athletic club would he an asset to the town. The request was granted. GENERAL. H. A. Marshall, Okauia, wrote offering to. purchase two huts which wore used by tho workmen at the time of the construction of the headworks. The chairman stated that there was a previous application in. —Left to the Sewerage Committee. On his application a motor license was granted to E. S. Jenkins. FOREMAN’S REPORT. The town foreman, Mr. J. Pulling, submitted his usual fortnightly report as follows: “ Water: The purchase of 4x3 and 8 x 1 totara timber was recommended for tho erection of fire-hy-drant notices. The usual appendices were attached. “ General: The grader had not been out owing to roughness of weather. Tho metal in the following thorough* fares had been patclmd: 'rower, Tainui, Tui and IT el an n streets, Mamrawhovo road, station road from Peria road to town boundary, and Delaney road to town boundary. Three yards of gravel had been used to hind patching’ All footpaths and crossings hnf. been sanded where necessary. Pegs were in in Farmers’ road, and a start Will be made Ithoro when weather breaks. The first ion of cement had horn received and a commencement had been made wilh the makme of the concrete blocks, five concrete slabbeing already made.
