MATAMATA TOWN BOARD.
Adjourned WleetSng. The adjourned meeting of the Matamata Town Board was held on 'Monday evening last. The members present were, Messrs. J. Price (chairman), G. G. Bell, J. E. Vosper, J. Mclntyre, and WA. Gordon. SYMPATHY. Before proceeding with the business, the chairman moved a 'vote of sympathy to Mr and Mrs J. Phillips in connection with the death of their infant son. WAIHOU RIVER NAVIGATION. ' Several letters and copies of correspondence between the Paeroa Chamber of Commerce and the Minister for Marine, dealing with Waihou river navigation were receivod. The Board decided that the question was a local one and did not immediately opneern the Matamata district. v POWER BOARD. In response to a telegram from the Board, the Minister for Public Works ;,telegraphed that he had app?6Ved of the boundaries of the Thames Valley Power district, and also that the proclamation will : be-gazetted as soon as the Governor-General's signature can beofetained.

THE DRAINAGE PROBLEM., Several letters with regard to the drainage of the Glaxo factory were befoi/e the Board one suggesting a conference between the Board and representatives of the Amalgamated Dairy Company. It was decided to consult with the Board's engineer, Mr Lockie Gannon, on" the question, asking him also to expedite the preparation of the sewerage scheme. Considerable discussion took place regarding the ; obnoxious odours' 1 emanating from certain factories' in the town. The chairman explained what, action had been taken by the Board, but'he said these had had little effect. The chairman said there had been over a hundred mild illnesses in the town within the last few weeks, and he doubted if there was any person in, the town who did npthaye'a headache or Sorethroat at least twice a week. He thought the smells had touch to do with this.
. It was decided to telegraph the principals of the factories asking" them to remedy matters; otherwise the Board would do' 'its utmost to get the factories closed.' ... ,
