MATAMATA DAIRYING
Great Increase in Supply
The closer settlement of Matamata and the increase of the number of soldiers who have taken up dairying has told its tale on the existing factories in ,Matamata. We understand that at least 10,000 gallons of milk are at present being received at the Glaxo ” factory, which is about 1000 gallons more than the factory can at present. accommodate for drying. Thus it is that part of the evening’s milk has to be separated. We are informed that many of the dairy cows are hot yet in, and that in the flush of this season the supply will be at least 15,000 gallons. To deal with this a new stage is to be erected. At the cheese factory an extra vat has been installed to endeavour to deal with the increased supply. The manager states that he is already dealing about 800 lbs of milk more than the flush of last season. Some of the offered supply will have to be rejected. This factory, however, is expected to be closed in about two months, when the Waharoa dried milk factory should be completed. In addition to the supply to the two Matamata factories has to be reckoned that to the Te Poi factory, and the cream which is for-
warded from the railway station from the Peria, Turangaomoana, Okauia and Taihoa districts. \At Te Poi the Sunny Park Co-opera-tive Cheese Co. will deal with an increase of over 200 cows on last season’s operations. A conservative estimate of the milk (cream) being sent from Matamata station each morning at present is 80,000 lbs. The estimate of the total supply of milk to be handled each day at Matamata this season is from about 9000 cows.
