Mr F. H. Hoskinghas resumed practising his profession of dentist in Matamata.
Messrs Earl, Kent and Massey announce that they have opened a branch office in Matamata.
Tonders are invited for the erection (in wood) of a new post office at Walton.
It has been" definitely decided to dismantle the Matamata cheese factory and re-erect it at Okoroire.
The monthly meeting of the Matamata branch of the Farmer's Union will be held on Friday (tomorrow) night, when a report of the Provincial Conference will be given.
Rev. T. H. C. Partridge was on a visit to Matamata last weekend, and conducted services at All Saints Church, morning and evening on Sunday.
At Turanga-o-moana 4.59 inches was registered for May, by Mr W. Kirkness. Rain fell on eleven' days, the heaviest being 2.87 inches on the 18th.
Nominations to fill the vacant seat on the Matamata Town board closed yesterday at noon. Two nominations were received, both aspirants being well-known townsmen—Messrs J. W. McIntyre and E. Lark. An election will be held in the Town hall next! Wednesday.
Private "Dick" McCabe arrived home in Matamata this week after over two years on active service. Accompanying him was Private Albert Gibson, one of four brothers who went away and of whom only two are left.* Both returned soldiers are at present the guests of Mr and Mrs F. R. Gibson. Albert is a brother of Mr Frank Gibson.
At the Matamata School committee meeting on Monday evening, the question of asking the Education board to standardised school books was raised by Mr E. Lark. He said that representations had been made to him by various men that it was very hard on their pockets to have to purchase books standard, which were often being changed with schools. He said a move had been made by several committees and he offered a suggestion that the Matamata committee should follow suit. Notice of motion "that the matter be fully discussed at next meeting" was given. Ferret advertised for. Calves straying. Two cows lost. Sevon months old dog lost. Young girl wanted for housework. room wanted by elderly lady. Messrs Finnerty and Darby advertise two attractive farm properties.
