Mr J. Price, who was indisposed for over a week is now about again, and was in attendance at the Town board meeting on Monday evening. Mr John K. Ledger, surveyor, of the firm of Lockie Gannon and Ledger is at present in Matamata on a month’s business -trip. He has just completed the subdivision of Mr P. J. Weston’s property. Indications at present point to a shortage of winter feed and farmers seem little inclined to load themselves with stock. Consequently values show no prospect of rising immediately.
There was a large assemblage at the Matamata Railway station last Saturday to welcome home various district soldiers. Among those to arrive were “ Bob ” Matteer, “Willie" Morrow, J. Stanley and Kneebone (Hinuera.)
A party of Matamata sportsmen, Messrs Holmes (2), W. and H. Harding, and W. W. Livingstone have returned from a visit to Wairarapa, where they had been on a deer-shooting expedition. They report excellent sport, some good heads having been obtained. One of these was a thirteen pointer.
For changing his place of abode from North Auckland, to Peria, Ivan Martinae, an alien, was fined £2 and costs at the Matamata Magistrate's court yesterday. Puhi Pomare, for disorderly conduct at Putaruru, was fined £1 with costs- He was fined £2 for damaging the constable’s gold watch chain.
At the annual meeting of householders on Monday evening the chairman, Mr J. Pohlen, referred to the fact that Mr S. Gunn did not intend to seek re-election to the committee. He said that Mr Gunn had served on the committee as chairman or secretary for a matter of 12 or fifteen years, and during that time had always been one of the hardest voluntary workers. He had the greatest pleasure in proposing a hearty vote of thanks to him. . The ino- * tion was carried by acclamation and it-was decided to record it in the minutes. Bay gelding lost. Gold bangles lost. Purse containing money lost. Tenders are invited for painting the Farmers’ Union hall. Annual meeting of parishoners Matamata Anglican church on May 12th. Mr W. Burnett, notifies that he is in business as a builder and may be consulted as to contracts at Peria road.
