In discussing a letter from .the Auckland Employers’ association on Wednesday, the members of the Matamata County council protested against being practically forced to join that body. It was decidedtnot to join, as it was ■considered that the interests of town and country local bodies were not identical. An important notice to the electors of tHe electoiate of Tauranga, in reference to the forthcoming licensing poll, appears in another column. It is provided that should an elector not reside at the address stated on the roll it is a valid ground of objection, and his „ name may be removed from the roll. To guard against this possibility it is expedient that electors in the district who have changed their address should at once notify the registrar of electors. A long discussion on the question of raising loans for metalling work throughout the county took place at the Matamata Couqty council meeting on Wednesday. Amounts in the vicinity of from £2,500 to £SOOO were mentioned by members, which led Cr. Pohlen to remark that those amounts would be of very little use to the Matamata riding. He would much rather that the council generally waited until conditions got back something near to normal for the.Matamata riding would require from * £30,000 to £40,000 for a complete roading scheme.
