Brief Mention of all Minor Happenings in Matamata and Vicinity.

Among those to succumb to the influenza epidemic at Te Aroha this week, were Messrs E. H. Hawken, (dentist), S. W. Cope (land agent) and " Jim" Maioney. All three were real good sports, Mr Maioney, being handicapper to -the Auckland centre of the New Zealand Athletic union. Mr Arch. Warner, late manager Farmers' Union Trading Co.'s machinery branch, advises that he is prepared to undertake water-divining and well-boring (with most up-to-date plant) oil engine and windmill overhauling etc. Orders may be left at Hurrell and Co.'s Matamata office, or c/o D. McL. Wallace, Ltd.

An appeal is made in this issue by the chairman of the Matamata branch of the Farmers' Union asking for the assistance of the farmers of the district, especially those who are not milking, in the work of caring for the sick undertaken by the Town board. Assistance is urgently needed and it is hoped a hearty response will be made. Sheep dog lost. A black heifer is advertised as lost. Mr R. A. Walton has a notice in this issue. The Waitoa Drainage board invite tenders for various draining contracts. The Matamata County council advises that all rates unpaid after November 30th, will be sued for without further notice.
