Brief Mention of all Minor Happenings in Matamata and Vicinity.
We regret to learn that Mr E» -Beeson is seriously ill in Auckland suffering from in-fluenza-pneumonia. During the illness of Mr Johnson Mr Frank Graham, late of the Hamilton 'Railway station, is acting stationmaster at Mafamata. The whole of the permanent staff are down with the “flu.” Among those who have decided to contribute to the British Seamen’s fund any wool surplus which may come to them from the Imperial Government, are Messrs J. W. Anderson (Piarere), W. E. Franklin (Rukuhia), J. W. Simpson (Matamata) and H. R. Harding (Turanga-o-moana). Mr Reuben Parr, for about thirty years a familiar figure as clerk of the race-course at Te Aroha, has resigned. Mr Parr, who is now well on towards eighty years of age, is still hale and hearty, but preferred to hand the position over to a younger man. He was a very popular official. Transportation conditions, which have made difficult the shipment of milk and cream long distances, render particularly valuable an emulsor, now being widely introduced, which produces pasteurized milk or cream from their component parts with the aid of centrifugal force, says an American magazine. The machine is built somewhat like a cream separator. Milk powder, butter and water, which have been mixed and heated in a steam jacketed vat, are fed at pasteurising temperature into the revolting chamber, producing a perfect emulsion from which all foreign matter is eleminated.
