PUKETURUA

With the milder weather a strain is lifted from the farmers’ shoulders. The continued bad weather was likely to damage the oat crops and hinder growth of grass. Notwithstanding the increased cost of wire Mr Pearce, who bought 3000 acres from Mr W. T. Barnett, contemplates erecting 10 miles of fencing. Not long ago a 10-roomed dwelling was erected, and a manager duly installed on the property. 500 acres are already ploughed and lying fallow for turnips. The grader is busy on the Puketurua-Pukeatua road. This road leads to the Arapuni falls, and it will be well to have a good road so as to favorably impress the Minister for Public Works when he pays his visit on the 27th inst. Mr Pearson has decided -to erect a store and post office near the cheese factory. In such a growing district this is just what is wanted and should prove convenient for all. The Puketurua Dairy company is doing remarkably well now. Three tons of cheese is to be sent away to-morrow, and an assistant is needed for the factory. The high prices paid for cheese makes the farmer very pleased, and he smiles his best on the 20th.
