NOTES ON NEWS.
The criticism fired at the Minister for Public Health through countermanding the order of the Acting Chief Health officer has caused the Cabinet to take action. Their step goes further than the Health officer’s, probably to make up for the attempt to undermine his authority. One splendid feature of the past few weeks has been the way everybody has welcomed restrictions. We have been called upon to surrender one thing after another, until we have become vastly interested in the next act of prohibition. In totalling what has been negatived individual taste will determine which item causes the biggest sigh. We mustn’t go to moviesor any other place of amusement; neither should we go to church. Now we must get sick if we want j stimulants, stop having haircuts, j and our friends are prevented' from treating us to morning or afternoon tea at the tea rooms. Yet, with it all there is no grumbling; in fact, we reckon it the right thing. Our enforced self-denial will be vastly rewarded if it helps the community to regain its health.
