The Influenza Epidemic.
To THE EmTOTI. Sir, —For a time it seemed that Matamata would escape ?. visit of the influenza germs, but now it is certain that a number of residents are down with the dread disease. I write to you, sir, to inquire through your columns if it is not time that the public school was closed. I know of several houses which contain patients, and our children have to sit for many hours each day with children from these habitations. Is there any surer way of spreading the disease than through a school? There are at least 20 cases in the town district and it strikes me hard that if the school is not closed there will be many more. It is no use waiting until the children are all sick—they have got sick in other places—rather the precaution should be taken to keep them from congregating together. As a father of a big family I would recommend the committee to close the Matamata school. —I am, etc., "PARENT."
