A truck of bullooks, sold in the paddocksat £22 10s a head, was railed from Matamata yesterday by Mr M. Madill. The tender of Messrs Bruce and Moreland has been accepted for carrying out alterations and additions to the Matamata Post office. In view of the New Year’s race meeting at Tirau several thoroughbred hacks are now in training at Matamata. On their training efforts it would seem that some of the prize money will come this way. ' A telegram has been received by the parents at Tauranga stating that Trooper Herbert Mansel t had died at a Palestine clearing station. Trooper Mansel was a . brother-in-law of Mrs Mansel (nee Miss Butler) of the Farmers’ Auctioneering Company’s Mataifiata branch. A very pleasant social, organised by a committee, was held in the town hall last week. There was a good attendance, and as a rosult the sum of £1 12s will he added to the looal Red Cross •'funds. 'Me M McDermott was M.C- music was played by Mr P. Ingham. Brigadier Wouters, of the Belgian 'Army,- delivered an address hu add otirio Belgian Relief fund, at Matamata, on Thursday last. The attendance was not what it. should have been, but those present were treated to a first hand narrative of the German invasion of Belgium. The lantern slides in many cases were not pleasant to gaze utfon—very few things - are in connection with the great war—but nevertheless they were such as convinced the public as to the authenticity of the stories that have been published. The stock is said to be in great heart AtMorrinsville last week the heaviest cattle went to as high as £22. The sale will commence at 11.30 a.m.
