ON THE SCREEN.

" Stranded." "Stranded," a romantic filmdrama from the Triangle studios, to be shown at Matamata on Saturday, is a very charming story and succeeds in getting off the beaten track. The winsome little heroine is Bessie Love who was never more appealing, while De Wolf Hopper as the broken down Shakespearian actor makes a memorable figure. These two are members of a vaudeville i troupe which is on the point of j bankruptcy. The unscrupulous 1 manager, fascinated by the little I trapeze girl, proposes to appropriate the funds of the troupe and , run away, taking the girl with him.. She refuses, and is so disturbed over the proposal that she meets with an accident while doing her act. The troupe departs, leaving her | behind. The broken-down actor ✓stays to look after her and passes j her off as his daughter. Things then go on quite smoothly for awhile. The girl becomes engaged to a fine young fellow of the township and the wedding is arranged. Then the rascally manager turns up, and threatens to reveal to the bridegroom's staid parents that the girl used to be on the stage and actually wore tights. Ln the ensuing scene the old actor plays the grandest part of his life. The picture has a very unique appeal. The programme also includes a Triangle comedy, an "Interest" picture, and two Gaumont graphics.
