WALTON.
At the last meeting of tho Farmers' union the question of the extension of the 'phone hours was brought forward, and a committee was set up to canvass for new subscribers to secure the 8 to 8 service. The old subject of the post office was the theme of considerable discussion. The defects of the present building and its inadequacy for the requirements* of the district were spoken on. What has puzzled, and is still puzzling residents, is why a grant of £BOO should appear on the Estimates and yet not be spent. That is the position o\ our post office. The mone>? Ss there, ov is supposed to be there, but we cannot get it. The Bailway department is being asVea to make move room at ttvo station ' for cream carts, and the sugges- , tion was made that a portion of the bank should be cut away. 1 The district organiser, Mr L. H. McAJpine, paid us a viuit, and gave an address on the necessity of organisation. He was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
