CHRISTMAS GIFTS.
Public Meeting. About thirty ladies and Mr J Price attended a public meeting on Tuesday afternoon in response to an invitation to meet and discuss the matter of providing Christmas gifts for Matamata and district boys at the front. Mr Price was elected to the chair, and explained the project. After discussion it was decided on the motion of Mrs F. Darby that a canvass be made in the district for straight-out donations. On the motion of Miss A. Robinson it was resolved that ladies in each district be asked to canvass. The following were appointed: —Matamata: Mesdames Simpson, Cranswick, Mateer, Kelso, and Miss Sergeant; Taihoa: Mrs West and Miss Robinson ; Hinuera : Mrs Berry and Miss Ring; Peria: Mrs Beeson and Mrs Blennerhassett; Tauranga-o-moana: Mrs Boulcott and Miss Harding; Waharoa : Mrs Blyth to consult meeting. The collectors were appointed an executive committee.
