The Matamata Record

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 1918 TO YOU!

The Only Paper published in the Matamata County Published every Thursday Office Tower Hoad P.O. Box 38 ’Puoxe 82

YOU going to do to help the Boys, is a question which you now have but four days in which to answer. On Monday next, at 8 p.m., the campaign in aid of the Red Cross, which has been running for nearly eight weeks, will close. Have you given ALL you can afford, or have you still a bit in hand that you are not sure about. To-day, out in France and Flanders, in Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Palestine, your boys are still fighting, fighting through perhaps the most critical part of the campaign. They are there upholding the banner of righteousness, defending the pillars of civilisation, as never men have been called upon before. To-day, in France, New Zealanders, with the men of the whole Empire, are pushing forward to the end. They have fought for four years in the bloodiest war the world has ever known. Men lie mutilated by shrapnel, and machine gun bullets in France to-day. The awful wounds were received whilst fighting for you. Will you deny them the relief that humanity demands? Have you done ALL YOU COULD ? In six months time it may be too late. You may then be denied the pleasure of knowing that you have done your bit towards helping the boys on to victory; towards helping the maimed and mutilated on the field of battle. DO IT NOW! On Monday night next it will be known whether or not the confidence reposed in the Matamata County was misplaced. The goal of the county, excluding Maungatautiri and Taotaoroa is £8,500. Next week the news will go forward by various channels to the Matamata County boys at the front, that either we succeeded or failed to reach the goal. Have you thought of the moral effect on the boys ? Have you thought of the pride they will have in their home county when they hear that all which was expected has been done? Have you thought of the pleasure it will give them to know that you feel for them in their danger ? DO IT NOW or you may be too late. You know what the Red Cross is; imagine yourself out there! And, after all, what is £8,500 compared with what they have to go through. Send in that extra bit- victory may be in sight, but the boys still need attention where they fall. YOUKS may mean saving the life of a soldier.
