Dyer, • took his seat on the Matamata bench for the first time on Friday. The Hon. W. H. Herries M.P., member for Tauranga, passed through Matamata on Tuesday, on his return from the East Coast. At a meeting of the Matamata Queen carnival committee, held yesterday, it was decided to sell donated cattle at the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co's. sale on Wednesday. At the Fancy Dress ball on Friday the result of a nail guessing competition, held at the recent hard up social, was announced, the winner being Mr M. Madill, of Taihoa. A Red Cross shop, on behalf of the Green Queen was held at Messrs Stewart and Co's rooms yesterday, good business being recorded. A report will appear next issue. The Peria Queen's supporters will open a Red Cross shop and tea rooms at Messrs Stewart and Co. on Thursday next (Dalgety's -cow sale day). Luncheon and afternoon tea will be served. We regret to record that Mr and Mrs W. Brindle's little girl, Joan, 20 months of age, who was sent to the Hamilton hospital last week, showed signs of relapse this week. The latest report is a slight improvement. VI Will Repay," the great drama to be screened at Matamata on Saturday, will be the first O. Henry story to be told here by cinematography. The picture is said to-be particularly attractive. The programme for the Red Queen inserted in this issue, includes a hard-up social on Friday (to-morrow), Mock Court on Tuesday, and a stock drive- The jury on the Mock Court will consist of ladies. The latest hospital report concerning Mr C. Stewart, who was injured on Saturday, is to the effect that he' is progressing under Dr Carolan's and Nurse Impey's care towards recovery, and will probably be able to leave for his home this week-end. The positions in connection with the Matamata riding queen contest last night was that Matamata (red) was £IBO in front of Taihoa (green) which was £l2 in front of Peria (khaki).' The latter is £9O in front of Turanga-o-moana (blue) which is £34 ahead of Waharoa (pink). On Monday evening, a painful accident befell little George Roliutt, son of Mr H. Rollett. i'tie little fellow's foot was trodden on by a horse, one toe ■■). iug nearly severed. After beting atiended to by Dr Carolan the sufferer was ta<ken to the Waikato hospital. It is feared that the boy may lose his toe. A grand concert in which artists from Hamilton, Waiuku and Rotorua, assisted by "the Green Pierrots, will participate will be held on behalf of the Green Queen, in the Matamata hall, on Friday of next week. The concert, will take the place of the farce " Ici on parle Francais " which was to have been staged. A thanks notice in this issue. Girl wanted for housework. Black Orpington cockerel for sale. Tenders invited for grazing show ground. A small office to let in main street, Matamata. Pomeroy and Co. have for sale several waggons suitable for milk delivery.

On Saturday, September 7th a grand fancy dress carnival is being held in aid of the Red Queen. At the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co's. sale next Wednesday, two town sections and the furniture of three roomed house will be offered for sale. The furniture is in real good order, and especially well made.
