THE "GLAXO LORRIES."
Conference with County. Terms Fixed. A conference between the Matamata County council and representatives of dairy companies was held at Tirau on Thursday last. The Matamata riding members, Crs. Pohlen and Banks, suggested that a license of £IOO per lorry be demanded ; that the weight of the lorry be restricted to 2J4 tons, and the load 21 tons; that the speed be restricted to 8 miles per hour. Mr F. C. Daniell said if the council intended to enforce those terms there would not be a can of milk conveyed by motor-lorry from Waharoa next season. The chairman: All we are looking forward for is the maintenance of the road, the county cannot and will not stand it. Mr W. E. Clark said that any future expenditure in connection with the lorries would have to be borne by the suppliers using it. After further discussion the county’s terms were altered to £SO per lorry, with a one-eighth of a penny per lb on all butterfat carried, the total not to exceed £100; that the speed be restricted to 10 miles per hour —the companies to provide a governor to each lorry; that the penalty for exceeding the speed limit be £lO for each breach ; the running not to commence before October Ist without the consent of the engineer. The representatives on each side expressed themselves as agreeable to these conditions, and an agreement in accordance was drawn up. Mr Daniell explained that he was also representing Mr Goodfellow, who was unable to attend.
