WAHAROA.

On Tuesday of last week Mr W. Goodfellow met a meeting of milk suppliers in reference to the establishment of a dried milk factory. Mr Goodfellow spoke on the lines of previous meetings. Speaking on the prices, he said that at to-day’s rates skim milk powder (soluble in cold water,/ plus butter at Is 8d per lb, would pay milk suppliers 4s per lb butter fat. but cautioned farmers not to reckon on such a high figure. Waharoa was being chosen on account of good drainage and railway facilities, and arrangements would be made to handle the Matamata milk on a favorable basis. Over 1300 cows were signed up in the room, and there will apparently be little trouble in securing the required number, 3000. The pink Queen’s candidature was assisted considerably by a basket social, held on Thursday evening last, by the Waharoa Queen committee, assisted by the young ladies of the district. There was a large attendance and bidding for the baskets was very keen, and when the sales had been added, it was found that the total was £56 18s 6d. The highest bid for a basket was that of Mr A. K. Weeks, who secured the Queen’s own dainty and pretty supper arrangement at £6. The next highest were purchased by Mr J. Carroll and Mr W* Gale. The floor was in good condition for dancing while the music by Mr and Mrs Darby and Mr J. Gumming would have pleased the most fastidious dancer*. The musicians were accorded musical honors when it was announced that they had donated their fees back to the Queen. The hall was nicely decorated by Mrs Walton. Mr R. Scott fulfilled the duties of M.O. capably and excellent services were tendered by the president, Mr C. Elliott, and secretary, Mr T. Shiron, of the committee.- The function was most enjoyable and socialable right through and left all looking with anticipation to the next function.
