OKAUIA.
The campaign in aid of the Red Cross opened at Mrs Grenville's, where a bread and butter social was held. In spite of very bad weather and roads a good number rolled up and a pleasant evening was spent, resulting in the sum of £1 19s 3d being obtained for the fund. On the following Friday a social was held in the school-room when £3 5s was taken at the door, £1 Is for badges, £1 8s 6d for Mrs McDonald's cake, and £1 8s 6d for programmes. The dance music was played by Mrs Austing and Mr Hollis (piano) and Mr Graveson (violin). Master Pelham and Miss Violet Hollis played a violin and piano duet, Mr Austing song, Mr Fogerty song, Mr Hollis reading. Mr. Jones was M.C. The second bread and butter social was held at Mrs Clark's on Monday, when two guineas were added to the fund. The monthly meeting of the Farmers' union was held on Monday, when correspondence relating to rabbit poison, Farmers' union land agency, and correspondence lessons in agriculture were read. The cost of benzine and manuros was discussed, and a cheque signed for £l4 17s 6d being the contribution to the Sub-provincial district.
