The Public Hall.
To ihb Editok. Sir,—ln reply to Pro Bono Publico's letter in your last issue, I wish so quote a few figures from our books. Total cost of Hall, furnituie arid plant £1557 15s 5d Amount given by subscribers £lO4 14s 10'1 Amount raised by sale of woolshed £2OO 0s Od Amount raised b}' efforts of Hall Committee £928 7s 5d Leaving a Bank over. draft of £324 14s Od The Maintenance cost has been £428 4s 8d ?£hese figures speak volumes for our " unbusiness like methods." Pro Bono Publico may obtain the information he so anxiously desires, by a personal application to myself without appealing to your readers. If Pro Bono Publico is one who signed the guarantee bond, he is hardly in possession of all his faculties if he does not wish to see that liability terminated. If he is not a guarantor, his question as to the need of " feverish haste" is easily understood. Mr Frank Kenny, of J. O. Williamson's staff, remarked on the suitability of the Public Hall, for entertainments such as are held by travelling companies. Perhaps it is amateur companies that place the Hall on their black list ? Re lighting—perhaps it would be a more paying transaction for the Hall if the lights always went out at 9.30 p m., carbide being the price it is. In conclusion, I have no hesitation in saying that our committee have earned the name of " Pro Bono Publico," not merely signed it. Come out into the open Mr Pro Bono Publico.—l am, etc., W. A. GORDON, Hon. Sec. Matamata Public Hall. Those Chains. TO THE EPITOB. Sir, —I have heard it rumored that the Hall Committee intend installing tip chairs and small marble tables, and supplying all picture patrons with hot coffee before they leave the building —no ext.a oharge to be made. Can any of your readers substantiate this for me. —I am, etc.j TIP CHAIR.
