MATAMATA ROADS.

And Motor Traffic. At Friday's meeting of the Matamata County council the question of motor traffic for the haulage of milk on Matamata roads was again brought up for discussion, as a result of a letter and proposals from the N.Z. Dairy association. The letter stated that as a result of experiments made over one road last year the company had decided to take the heavy motors off the road and run lorries of 2 1 /i ton weight without trailers. Cr. Banks : Didn't we decide to restrict the vehicle and load to three tons ? Cr. Pohlen said the resolution had been made, but perhaps it was impossible to keep the weight so low. In view of the possibilities of motor traffic, with storage batteries, he thought that a special meeting should be held to discuss the whole question. Cr. Stopford concurred. Members spoke against the suggested license of £SO per vehicle ; but were rather inclined to insist upon a bond of a certain amount to cover future damage and upkeep. It was finally decided that a special meeting be held on a date to be arranged, to which representatives of the Dairy association and Waikato Dairy company j be asked to attend to consider the question of heavy motor traffic.
