A dance in aid of Rod Cross funds will be held by the Mataniata Football club in the Mataniata hall on Thursday next, July 25th. A Red Cross shop will be held on Wednesday, July 31st, in aid of the Red Queen (Matamata). Donations of stock and produce may be left at Mr Kelso's. At the last meeting of the Mata" mata County council a vote o sympathy was passed to the chair" man, Mr J. W. Anderson, in connection with the sad loss sustained by him through the death of his sister at Cambridge on June 20th In order to further the candidature of the Waharoa queen the hall committee at Waharoa has decided to add a further picture programme on one day in the week, the nett proceeds to be devoted to the great cause. The question as to whether an inter-riding coronation shall be held was discussed at the Mataniata riding queen executive on. Wednesday. Opinions differed, and it was decided that the question be deferred, the delegates to consult their various committees before next meeting. It was explained by Mr H. W. Smales, secretary for the riding executive, that his services were at the disposal of the committee of every queen) although he was also secretary for the "Red queen." He was looking for the ultimate more than the immediate object. He would be at the call of each committee. A Gospel mission is at present being conducted by the Rev. E. T. Cox. M.A., in the Matamata Methodist church. Bright services, with songs and solos, will be held each evening up to and including Monday next. Solos will be rendered at each meeting by the well-known Auckland singer, Miss Alice Rimmer. The position of the large area of country recently taken up by the Salvation Army for an orphanage site at Putaruru, in respect to rates, was discussed by the Matamata County council on Friday. It was stated that the Army intendeds teaching agriculture to orphans. On the motion of the chairman it was decided to allow the land to remain rate-free meanwhile. At the conclusion of the football match on Saturday a presentation of a pair of ebony and whalebone hair-brushes was made to Mr G. Findlay, by Mr B. C. Taylor, on behalf of the Matamata club. Mr Taylor spoke of the energy displayed by the secretary in connection with restarting the gamo and thanked him on behalf of the club. N The Matamata Fish and Game society will hold a meeting in the Farmers' hall on Monday evening next. At the Matamata sale on Wednesday, July 31st, the Farmers' Auctioneering Co. Ltd. will offer for sale thirteen sections, with a six-roomed house, the property of the late Mrs Scelly, situated at Waharoa. This property is on the main road in the Waharoa township, and should have high prospective value. They are opposite the railway station.
