MATAMATA PUBLIC LIBRARY.
Annual Meeting. The annual meeting of subscribers to the Matamata Public Library was held on Saturday, Mr J. Draper presiding. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance on the year’s working, and the secretary’s report showed that about 50 new books had been added to the library. Both president, Mr J. Draper, and secretary, Mrs Free, resigned their positions, and were thanked for services rendered. Officers were elected as follows: Patron, Hon. W. H. Herries M.P.; president, Rev. R. W. Jackson ; vice - president, Mr Alien-Smith ; secretary and treasurer, Mr G. A. Kusabs; committee, Messrs Yardley, Smales and Gale; selection committee, Rev. Jackson, Mr Allan-Smith and Mr A. G. Yardley. It was decided to apply to the hall committee for a reduction of rent. It was pointed out that many subscribers were away on active service and the Government subsidy had been discontinued ; so that the library revenue was now much less than formerly. The subscribers thought, seeing that the library was a useful public institution, the members of the hall committee might assist in the manner asked.
